:: Strive to Make Myanmar Tourism A Success

Today, tourism has become a trendy and lucrative business for many destination regions in the world. In Myanmar, Hotels and Travel Associations are working closely together under the guidance of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism in order to boost the development of tourism in Myanmar.

Myanmar tourism industry has made considerable progress as a result of better transportation system and improved transport connectivity.

Providng good services plays a major role in making the tourism industry a success. Every service provided for tourists must be as good as possible for their comfort and convenience while they are on holiday in the country.

The services provided must be good in both the hotel and tourism sectors. It is important that hotel staff must be competent and the success of the hotels relies on having qualified hotel staff. Likewise, in the tourism sector, staff must be trained to be qualified ones who can create customer satisfaction.

In Myanmar, there are unique archaeological sites, ancient cultural edifices and traditional arts and crafts which never fail to amaze every tourist visiting Myanmar. The unspoiled and picturesque sea beaches are attracting tourists to see and feel Myanmar’s natural scenic beauty.

Improvement of the tourism industry symbolizes tranquility and peace of the destination. So, hotel staff are to be trained well to be polite and competent so that they will be able to offer their best services combined with Myanmar’s gentle character and warm and sincere hospitality to make the tourists’ stay pleasant and worth visiting. As a result, the tourism business in Myanmar will become a firmly developed business that significantly contributes to the interests of the country’s economy. :: Hotels & Tourism Minister receives General Manager of Chatrium Hotel Yangon

H.E. U Tint Hsan, Minister for the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism received Mr. Bhongbhichai Bhitakburi, the General Manager of Chatrium Hotel Yangon at the Ministry in the afternoon and discussed the matters relating to the development of tourism in Myanmar.

:: Effort to provide the best service to the customer under the supervision of the entrepreneurs besides the theory and practical training

For the improvement of the quality of services of the staff from the restaurants in Nay Pyi Taw, course on the Waiting Service Training (1/2011) was concluded under the arrangement of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism at the Jade Hall of the Ministry here yesterday morning and the Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Tint Hsan presented the certificates of completion.

At this ceremony, honorariums were offered to the lecturers and the Minister delivered on concluding address, saying that the staff from the restaurants in NayPyiTaw are in prime position and are needed to be trained to provide the best service and hospitality to the customers. Afterwards, he also mentioned that Nay Pyi Taw receives the state guests often and also the 3rd Gems Emporium, the GMS meetings, the SEA Games in 2013 and the ASEAN meeting in 2014 are going to be held in Nay Pyi Taw. Therefore, not only the theory and practical training but also the supervision of the entrepreneurs are needed to enhance the quality of services for the development of qualified restaurants.

The training course was attended by 30 trainees from 30 restaurants.

:: Discuss to form Nay Pyi Taw Hotel Zone, Reinforce Laws, Issue Hotel Licenses and Standardize Hotels

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Tint Hsan met with hoteliers of Nay Pyi Taw Hotel Zone at the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism meeting hall in the afternoon of 16th May 2011 in Nay Pyi Taw and discussed the issues to form Nay Pyi Taw Hotel Zone, reinforce laws, conduct hotel courses and standardize hotels.

Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Htay Aung and Chairman of the Myanmar Hoteliers Association presented requirements to be fulfilled to improve hotel services in the Hotel Zone Association and hotels, and follow-up programmes.

On behalf of the hoteliers from Nay Pyi Taw Hotel Zone, Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Hoteliers’ Association U Tha Htay reported on hotel services and announced the name list of the executive committee members of Nay Pyi Taw Hoteliers’ Association.

After that, U Aung Zaw Win, General Manager of the Myanmar Hotels and Tourism Services presented matters to organize training courses at Nay Pyi Taw Hotel Zone and U Htay Win, Director of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism explained issuing of hotel licenses and standardizing hotels to the attendees.

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism and for Sports U Tint Hsan received a Chinese Delegation led by Mr. Wu Douyu, Vice-Chairman of National Import and Export Corporation of the People’s Republic of China and Party at his guest room at (13) hours (30)min, 4th April 2011 in Nay Pyi Taw. They had a frank dialogue on the matters relating to hotel and tourism industries and sports sectors of the two countries.

:: English Proficiency Skills Course No.1/2011 for Officials of Hotels & Tourism Ministry Concludes

English Proficiency Skills Course No.1/2011 for official of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism was concluded at the Ministry on 6th may 2011.

A total of 20 officials attended the two week course.

At the closing ceremony of the course No.1/2011, Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Htay Aung stressed the importance of English proficiency skills for the staff of the Ministry.

:: Union Minister U Tint Hsan attends the conclusion of Hospitality Services Course

The conclusion ceremony of Hospitality Services course for restaurant staff arranged by Ministry of Hotels and Tourism was held at the meeting hall here at (10:00)am today and attended by Union Minister U Tint Hsan.

First, Deputy Minister U Htay Aung and Managing Director U Hla Htay of the Myanmar Hotels and Tourism Services presented matters related to course and course instructor U Thein Tan reported training experiences.

After that, Deputy Minister for Ministry of Hotels and Tourism U Htay Aung awarded the outstanding trainees and gave completion certificates to the trainees.

The Union Minister then presented gifts to course instructors. At the ceremony to conclude the course No.1/2011, the Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Tint Hsan stressed as Nay Pyi Taw is the capital of the state need to develop and discipline flourishing, to uplift the skillful standards of the hospitality industry, to the needs and services for the state guests and international visitors visiting Nay Pyi Taw. The course is aimed at opening to have skillful staff in restaurants and uplift service quality standard. And also urged them for efforts to promote quality restaurants with experiences from course and close supervision of owners.

Also present at the conclusion ceremony were Deputy Minister U Htay Aung and officials of departments and owners from Nay Pyi Taw restaurants and 30 trainees.

Union Minister for H&T and for sport U Tint Hsan held a meeting with Hotels and Tourism business owners for private sectors at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism on the morning of 29th April , 2011. In this meeting , he explained the matters related to the establishment of Myanmar Tourism board (MTB) in cooperation with Myanmar Hoteliers Association , Myanmar Travels Association , Myanmar Marketing Committee, Tour Guide Committee and Myanmar Chef Association implementing future plans for the development of Hotels and Tourism industry . He also discussed on harmonious coordination with other related Ministries in order to develop Tourism industry.

:: Sign an MoU on Korea-Myanmar Tourism cooperation

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism and for Sports U Tint Hsan received Chairman Mr.Lee Yong Soo of Korea-Myanmar Development Cooperation (KMDC) and Chairman Mr.Nam Gung Gyeon and party of Korea Tourism Service (Onlintour) at the hall of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism on the afternoon of 16th May, 2011.­­

They friendly discussed about making investments of Hotels and Tour Companies of the Republic of Korea at Ngapali beach, Ngwe Saung beach, Chaungtha beach, Myeik Archipelagos,Yangon and Mandalay cities in Myanmar.

Next, a ceremony to sign an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Korea - Myanmar tourism cooperation for traveling of about 1000 Korean tourists to Myanmar monthly followed at the meeting hall of the Ministry, attended by Union Minister U Tint Hsan.Chairman U Zay Thiha of Myanmar Travel Syndicate and Chairman of Onnuri Travel Company Limited Mr.Gyoun Nam Goong signed the MoU.

:: Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism and for Sports, U Tint Hsan addresses Executive Committee Meeting of Nay Pyi Taw Hotel Zone

The Executive Committee meeting of Nay Pyi Taw Hotel Zone Association was held at the meeting room of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism on 20th May 2011 in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the meeting matters relating to the improvement of Hotel Standard, having qualified Hotel staff and their services, issuing new hotel licenses, star rating and opening of the office of Nay Pyi Taw Hotel Zone, were discussed.

Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism and for Sports U Tint Hsan delivered an address at the meeting. In his speech, he emphasized the need for the systematic development of hotels in Nay Pyi Taw and formation of Nay Pyi Taw Hotel zone association as existing hotel zones in main tourism destinations like Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan and Taunggyi. He also stressed the importance of providing quality services for the comfort and convenience of hotel guests. After that the Deputy Minister U Htay Aung explained to set up a hotel zone which comprises 54 hotels and work procedures.

Later, officials and executive committee members reported on conducting hotel courses, hotel license standardizing and work programs of Nay Pyi Taw hotel association.

The meeting was attended by responsible personnel and executive committee members of Nay Pyi Taw hotel zone association.

:: Union Minister U Tint Hsan receives ROK Ambassador to Myanmar

Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Union Minister for Sports and for Hotels and Tourism U Tint Hsan received the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar H.E.Mr. Kim Sok Chol at the Ministry of Sports on 12th May 2011.

At the call, they discussed matters related to reciprocal visits of sports teams and sharing techniques from each other and receiving trainings.

:: Chinese Company keen to invest in Hotel Sectors

President of Shandong Puli Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. Mr. Liu Jianye called on Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism and for Sports U Tint Hsan at the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism on 6th May 2011.

At the meeting, Mr. Li Jianye discussed investment in hotel business in Yangon Region, Mandalay Region and Bagan.

:: Receptionist Course for Restaurants of Nay Pyi Taw

Ministry of Hotels and Tourism launched Receptionist Course No.1/2011 for waiters and waitress serving in restaurants of Nay Pyi Taw at the assembly of the Ministry there on 18 May morning, with the address of Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism U Htay Aung.

A total of 30 trainees of nine restaurants from there were taking the one week course. The similar course will be opened for the remaining restaurants.

Nay Pyi Taw, 11 May- Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Tint Hsan met the tourism entrepreneurs from the border check-point towns, Muse and Tachilek, at the Union Minister's Office and discussed matters relating to the need for development of tourism industry within the said regions.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister stressed the need for development of tourism industry at the main border check-points, Muse and Tachilek; that if tourism industry develops, the hotel sector will also develop; that he wanted to know the true situation and related information on how the hotel and tourism entrepreneurs are operating their businesses; that the entrepreneurs were urged to discuss frankly for the sake of the regions' development in tourism so that the Ministry will be able to fulfill the requirements of the entrepreneurs by taking timely and quick actions.

Then the entrepreneurs of Star Travels & Tours of Muse, Golden Triangle Zone and Allure Hotel of Tachilek reported on their respective sectors. The Union Minister attended to the needs.
